Our honeymoon tour of Italy - San Gimignano - Florence

Next day we were heading to Florence with a visit of San Gimignano. The village is pretty with all its towers and we visited the church. Some had time to visit the torture museum, but we just sat somewhere with a nice view on the valley. I started to be tired of sightseeing.

We arrived in Signa, which had a train connection to Florence very close to our hotel. But we were really exhausted as most of our group. The older teachers from Australia and Ireland organized a birthday with a cake for one member of or tour and they invited us too. We had a lot of fun with them, as they were telling very funny stories and anecdotes with their showers and other funniest things.

Our guide tried to sell the last excursion, which was a gastronomic meal in country, but from previous experiences people weren’t too happy of the quality of the meals. The only ones who went were those who paid all in advance. According to them it was the best meal of all. Not hard to believe for 80000+ liras per person and with quality of food in Tuscany.

Our hotel was in the middle of nowhere, but the view from top solarium restaurant was just spectacular.

In the morning we drove for a nice view over Florence from a hill. It was sunny and the view was fantastic. We then drove to Florence for a visit to Santa Croce, which I loved a lot. Then while our fellow travelers where visiting an expensive leather store, yes another one, we stayed outside and there were plenty of leather carts which looked pretty good and prices were really affordable. I couldn’t find myself a classic model leather shoes. There were a lot of plastic and prohibitive prices. In one boutique I asked the woman and she told me everything more classical was exported mostly.

After that we had to visit el Duomo with its doors to heaven and inside an impressive clock.

After el Duomo we went to Palazzo Vecchio, where we had lunch after seeing David statue in the piazza de la Signoria (the false one), at one of the restaurants. The pasta and the sauce there couldn’t compete with the one we had in Siena. I found the meal was expensive for the quality. So, it worth looking on smaller streets if you have time, but we didn’t. We had a reservation at Uffizi Gallery. Their collection is impressive and we really enjoyed paintings from Boticelli, Leonardo da Vinci and Titian especially, but there is a lot of great art to see.

Then on our own we had time to visit Florence and some views on Ponte Vecchio.
