Our honeymoon tour of Italy - Sirmione on Lake Garda and arrival in Venice

In the morning the wake up call at 6AM. God, am I on vacation or what? Suitcases ready and in front of the door by 6h30. We went down for a breakfast, and this is where we first met a part of our group. We had breakfast with a young couple from New York, but of Italian parents. They were sympathetic, but the girl was disappointed she wasn’t admitted to the Cathedral. I explained her, she had to wear appropriate clothes. As she was wearing a big décolleté, no sleeves and her tummy was exposed too, they wouldn’t let her in a church in Italy, so next time she has something to dress on top. She had in general an eccentric style and very colorful outfits, but she was young.
Another group had 2 women in it wearing a Canadian T-shirt. We thought they were Canadian but they were Australian teachers. There was another couple of same age with us from Edmonton and the girl was from Quebec. They were very sympathetic and we often talked together exchanging impressions and even sharing the gondola in Venice.

The breakfast was a very good quality buffet. After this we went on the bus where our guide was going through a presence list. We then all had to sing the song of each country and a specific region.

Our lunch was at an Autogril, which had a very good choice of food and wine was inexpensive. You have to chose your meal first, then go and pay, and then get your meal with the check. A bit complicated as you have to remember what you chose, but people touching food wouldn’t handle money. It is the case in smaller places throughout Europe.

Our guide explained we would first stop in Lake Garda, Sirmione, before heading to Venice. That was an addition to our tour. So, we drove to the lake and had a very nice promenade there in the old village. The weather was nice, so we could enjoy a local gelato which was exceptional.

When we arrived to our nice hotel in the outskirts we still had time to go to Venice, so we went with the Canadian couple and since we were the only ones on the last vaporetto, it was like a cruise for the 4 of us with Venice in the pink sundown. That excursion was very romantic. We just sat and watched Venice postcard with its beautiful houses and bridges, and of course la Salute church.
We then returned back to our hotel, as in the dark, only expensive gondolas were available. We had a choice of an optional excursion to Burano, but our choice was Venice at sunset on our own and we weren’t disappointed.
