Our honeymoon tour of Italy - Sorrento - Capri - Pompeii

The next day we were traveling to Sorrento with no big stops along the road, except for lunch at an Autogril. Our hotel in Sorrento was a walking distance from the beach. We had to go down the cliff stairs to get there. The public beach was very small and dirty. We asked the private beach if we could lie down on their sand which was clean and they accepted for a small fee. We didn’t need to rent chairs for the day. The water was very warm. After the swim we climbed back up and then walked to our hotel along the wall. The cars can go fast there and there is no sidewalk. There was another possibility with sidewalks, but we needed to walk a long distance to our hotel.
We had our very Italian dinner with fish and chips, which were good, but made laugh the English couple who ate with us, because it wasn’t very exotic to them. Sorrento has a lot of retired English people staying there permanently or vacationing, so that was reflected in the food.

Our hotel was on a very busy street and sleeping with open windows was noisy. But I was ready; I never travel to Europe without my earplugs. You never know even in the smallest village the roads can be noisy, and the trash bins are usually emptied at 5AM.

In the morning we had our excursion to Capri. We transferred to Sorrento port and took the boat to Capri. Capri was beautiful, but the beaches were rocky. We went to AnaCapri and took the seat cable car to the top for the views which were magnificent. My legs where just over somebody’s houses and gardens when we went up. We then had a lunch at one terrace in the port followed by a swim and a walk in town. Capri is a beautiful place with ruins of roman villas to visit and magnificent views. It is touristy, but still worth a visit.

Next morning we were heading to Pompeii and then to Rome for four nights. We were excited.
In Pompeii we met with our guide. He was a good guide and a 2 hours visit was very interesting and enjoyable despite big heat. Among other things we saw a villa with a refined marble table preserved. The baths were also impressive where we could see the separation: the almost perfectly preserved part covered with cinder, and the part that was damaged with no cinder to preserve it. It was very easy to imagine people living in Pompeii with all streets with traces of wheels in the stones and mosaics in the floors of the houses, the stores, and the market, the forum and the theater.  We definitely wanted to go back to see more of Pompeii.
