Our honeymoon tour of Italy - Urbino - Gubbio - Asisi

Next stop was the town of Urbino, the birth town of Raffael. The town itself was in golden colors beautifully perched on top of a mount. We had time to visit the church and the museum with some of his paintings including la Muta for 300 lira donated to the church. His house was preserved as a museum and could also be visited.

As I got hungry, I purchased a pizza from a small local place. The owner was only speaking Italian. I explained him I wanted a pizza with meat, as on display they had only vegetarian pizza. He brought me inside his store where his daughter served me a spicy pizza with some sausage on it.

After Urbino we headed to Gubbio, a white stone town with a castle dominating it from the top of the mount. We visited the castle and beautiful views and then stayed a bit in the shaded park down in the modern part. The older woman tried to climb to the castle but she only arrived in the lowest part when we finished visiting and came down. We advised her not to go up as we were leaving soon and she wouldn’t have enough time to get up and down, and so she doesn’t get lost again. She came back to the bus with us.

Next stop for the afternoon and overnight was Assisi. We had a guided tour of the Basilica with Giotto frescoes, which were simply spectacular, and then some free time in Assisi, where we found a fountain to refresh in the old part. Then our hotel was in the modern part. The diner consisted of pasta and salad with some wine for us. We then walked to a local cheese store which had a spectacular variety of cheese. Cheese was expensive, it is usually in Italy, but we purchased a small one to taste. It was very good. People complained rooms in the hotel were very hot. We had air conditioning in our room activated by room key, but at night it was insufficient as the room was right under the roof, but sleeping with open windows wasn’t too hot.
