Inside the hotel had a surprisingly luxurious lobby and was
a 4 stars hotel. We had to leave our passports at reception.
Christina has arranged with the hotel as we had a voucher
already, so we could check into our room. The room was small in modern style,
but the bathroom was big and nice, although in a simple style. Christina
explained the group should meet later that night.
After a quick shower we went downstairs and purchased our
tickets. The tram terminus was right in front of the hotel, a street to cross. The
trams were old fashioned yellow on the outside and “wooden” on the inside. It
was an old fashion tram. We didn’t know exactly at which stop to get off, so we
asked people on the tram, and soon everyone was discussing where the best stop
was for the Galeria. Half of people said one stop and the other half said
another stop. Everybody was friendly. We finally got off just a few meters from
La Scala. The entrance to the Galeria was somewhat hidden by construction
works, so that was the reason of discussions.
We walked through the beautiful Galeria full of stores and
restaurants and to the old Milan. We then visited the magnificent marble Cathedral.
There was a mass.
As we were exhausted we wanted to have our meal in a
restaurant, but couldn’t find one right around accepting credit cards. We
finally found a restaurant in a side street that was closed, but we were told
they would open in about 30 minutes. So we sat there awaiting and taking in the
views and Milan
life. People started arriving and the restaurant opened. The waiters started
taking orders, but for some reason didn’t come to us until some people at the
other tables had shown in our direction as we were there before. Well, I knew
Sissi had a cold reception when she arrived in Milan, but that was strange and funny. We
could finally order. The pizzas were made with very fresh ingredients and were
good.
After dinner we just strolled back to the Tram and back to
our hotel. Of course we’ve missed the get together, but finally no one did show
up, as we only had one afternoon and night in Milan, so it was cancelled.
